Home is where the heart is...
Meet the Rhodes family. Kelly, a native of Brunswick, met her husband Cory through a mutual friend while they were in college -- or so she says.
"She doesn't like to tell people," he laughed. "But we actually met on Facebook."
"I mean no one really meets on Facebook," she giggled. "It's weird to say you met [on social media]."
Here's their story:
A few years later, the couple picked out a townhome that was close to her parents -- and an upcoming planned community.
They passed the site of Brunswick Crossing during its building process and considered moving for multiple reasons. Though Kelly wanted to be within 100 feet of their old home, Brunswick Crossing provided an almost equidistant commute for each of them without traffic. They also needed space to grow with little ones on the way.
"I remember going through the...models," Cory said. "I was most impressed with all of the energy efficiency in all of the houses. That really moved the needle for me."
Aside from the eco-friendliness, the couple wanted a more traditional looking home, too.
"I really like the traditional home with a front-facing garage," Cory said. "And we have an awesome backyard that backs up to this natural preserve. It's nice to look at."
After all their boxes were checked, the couple began talking to Maria Wood, a Ryan Homes representative.
"She knew everything," Kelly said. "She was accessible, and everything was seamless. I can't say enough good things about her."
"She went above and beyond the scope of what her normal work is, I'm sure," Cory said.
With Maria's help, the couple moved into their dream home - a Ryan Homes Palermo - in August 2016.
"My No. 1 was there's a playroom right off the living room. Having a family, it's worth every penny," Kelly said.
The family also appreciates Brunswick Crossing's convienent amenities, including tot lots, parks, trails, pool, and gym. Not to mention, the community events keep the kids occupied.
"I remember thinking, 'Wow. This is so different than the Brunswick [that] I grew up in,'" Kelly said.
"Some people think that it's all farm land out there. If you haven't been to Brunswick [lately], you have to see it...It's such a great place to live and have kids."
With room to grow, the duo has hosted multiple holiday parties and allowed Cory's parents to move in for a short period of time. Couple that with the growing community, and "this could very well be our forever home."
