The Perfect Holiday Movie Wish List

Whether you’re snuggling on the couch in front of the television or curled up in bed with some hot cocoa and Netflix, Christmas movies are one of the best ways to enjoy the season. Holiday films transport you to winter wonderlands where elves, reindeer and Santa Claus are part of the norm, and who wouldn’t want to spend their days inside a snow globe? Here are Ryan Homes at Brunswick Crossing’s favorite Christmas movies for your wish list:

Frosty, the Snowman, 1969: The world’s most beloved snowman comes to life when a magician’s hat serendipitously lands on his head, but when the magician wants it back, Frosty and the neighborhood kids hop on a train and escape to the North Pole.

A Christmas Story, 1984: This classic flick follows the wintry adventures of Ralphie Parker and his wacky family. From his ultimate quest for a Red Ryder Air Rifle to dodging the school bully, Ralphie struggles to get to Christmas Day with his holiday hopes – and glasses – intact.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, 1989: Like all of us during the holiday season, Clark Griswold just wants everything to be perfect, from the decorations to the tree size. However, his plans of Christmas bliss quickly go awry.

Home Alone, 1990: The McCallister clan accidentally leaves 8-year-old Kevin at home when leaving for a family trip to Paris. Thinking his wish for no family came true, Kevin enjoys the lavish life of loneliness until two burglars decide to intrude on his home. You can see more of Kevin’s antics in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

The Santa Claus, 1994: Divorced dad Scott accidentally scares Santa off the roof while watching his son, Charlie, on Christmas Eve. Now the Calvin family might get more than what they wished for this holiday when Dad takes over as Ole Saint Nick. You can catch Charlie, Scott and all the elves in The Santa Claus 2 and The Santa Claus 3: The Escape Claus.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, 2000: A live-action adaptation of the much-loved children’s book, the reclusive Grinch and his reluctant canine companion are out to ruin Christmas for the jolly citizens of Whoville, but will the adorable Cindy Lou Who foil his plans?

Elf, 2003: Will Ferrell stars as Buddy, an overzealous elf, who goes on a mission from the North Pole to New York in search for his real father after feeling like he doesn’t belong in Santa’s workshop anymore.

Four Christmases, 2008: Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughan co-star in this romantic comedy about a couple who try to escape visiting their families for the holidays by going on an exotic vacation. When their plans fall through, the lovebirds are subject to a quadruple Christmas extravaganza.

12 Dates of Christmas, 2011: This romantic comedy stars Amy Smart as an ungrateful workaholic who relives a first date to a wonderful mystery man on Christmas Eve. Can she get it right before the clock strikes midnight?

Arthur Christmas, 2011: Santa delivers presents to hundreds of millions of children each Christmas, but when he misses one child, it’s up to his youngest son, Arthur, to save the day in this expertly-animated film.

Happy Christmas, 2014: Anna Kendrick is a twenty-something hot mess who moves in with her brother, his wife and their new baby right before Christmas. What could go wrong?

When the weather outside gets frightful, it’s best to grab a mug of hot chocolate and some popcorn for a lazy winter night. To make things even better, pick one of these Christmas classics (or do a movie marathon!) and feel the joy of the holiday season come alive.
